SGMK employees and key partner enterprises traditionally celebrated Corporate Metallurgists’ Day together with their families at the Kuznetsky Shooting Park. The thrilling "Hero Race" format brought together participants of all ages.
"Today, on our professional holiday, we came here not just to relax. Our Metallurgists’ Day is the 'Hero Race' – a vibrant team competition where a comrade's support and collective willpower are what truly matter. These are precisely the qualities that have helped the company achieve success for 20 years now. Twenty years ago, we began our journey, and today we mark this anniversary as a leader in Russia's mining and metallurgical industry. Over these two decades, we have built full-cycle production facilities, launched unique premium ferroalloys, and become the main shield of raw material security for our region and the country. All of these major achievements are the result of the efforts of each and every one of you. Но our production victories would not have been possible without the unwavering support of our families. Family is our solid foundation, our safe harbor, and our inspiration. I am delighted to see so many children here, their eyes bright with happiness. This unity, this living connection between generations – that is our greatest value. Because the future of SGMK lies in our children," said Denis Kraev, CEO of JSC SGMK, in his welcoming address.
The "Hero Race" featured a variety of challenges. The program of this large-scale sports and entertainment event included team competitions, individual races, corporate runs, family activities, and yoga and stretching masterclasses. One of the most unexpected activities was nail-standing – where both adults and children tested their endurance.
"At first, it was really scary – the nails seemed so sharp. Dad wasn't nearby; he was playing volleyball. I didn't call him because then his team might lose. The instructor took my hand, and I took a step. I stood for a long time, enduring the pain because I wanted to prove that I'm strong, just like my dad. The instructor later called me the bravest little girl," shared Ulyana Nikolaeva, age 6.
Runners and spectators alike experienced a wealth of vivid emotions. The youngest participants ran a 200-meter distance. There were no stopwatches or timekeeping – the main goal was simply to complete the course. The adults cheered them on, creating a powerful synergy of love and pride. This energy also inspired the older runners.
"The organization was so flawless that every guest felt like a champion. Friendly competitions unfolded at the sports venues: while my husband was engrossed in a volleyball game, my daughter and I conquered the running tracks. We were filled with a special sense of exhilaration that literally tripled our strength. In the end, I took silver in my race, and my daughter won gold in her age category. And that’s despite the fact that she’s not a runner at all – the atmosphere worked real miracles," said Anna Yurkova, Lead Commercial Real Estate Specialist at Business Center LLC.
"Our whole Stepanov family took part. Our eldest son, 10-year-old Grigory, ran the relay – it was his first time, but thanks to his preparation, he took second place despite stiff competition. We were deeply touched by the support from colleagues – they genuinely cheered for every child. Our youngest, Misha, is only two, but we believe that next year he’ll be an active participant. I also took to the starting line – the weather didn't stop me from giving it my all, and I managed to take third place. It was incredibly enjoyable to connect with everyone in such a warm, informal setting," added Alexey Stepanov, Deputy General Director for Commerce at ZSEMZ LLC (West Siberian Electrometallurgical Plant).
At the peak of this competitive spirit, nature added some drama: forecasters had predicted heavy rain, and the skies opened up right as the main "Hero Race" was about to start. The downpour turned the obstacle course into an extreme adventure and a true test of will.
"But that didn't stop the teams – the 'Hero Race' was a success. Many participants stood out, and I am proud of my colleagues. Special thanks to the organizers and volunteers who made this wonderful event happen," said Dmitry Ushakov, who was in charge of the sports program.
The celebration was indeed a success. The well-earned medals on the chests of the day's heroes gleamed with a triumphant shine.
As Denis Kraev emphasized at the start: "All participants are already heroes, and there will be no losers today – because SGMK is one big, unbeatable family." And that is our strength!
